Store signing, travel and a kicked back weekend

September 23rd, 2007

I have been doing a bit of traveling the last 10 days or so. I did a store signing in Kentucky and met with a few members at a small gathering for drinks. I love to get out and meet members when I’m in the area. This week, I’ll be in Nashville for a autograph signing and a store promotion. I am planning a small meet and greet on Tuesday night for a few members who have contacted me about being in the area. I will post my travel schedule here in the forum, so if you’re in the area where I’ll be let me know and maybe we can work out to get together.

Did you guys have a good weekend? I kicked back and relaxed most of this weekend in preparation for travel tomorrow. I watched a couple of college games yesterday; and watched the NASCAR Dover race and the Colts/Texans and Cowboys/Bears games today. The Bears game so far is a little bit of a snoozer. I’m trying to score Titans tickets for later this fall when I’m back in the Nashville area; and hopefully a couple of Bears tickets in Chicago for November. Did your favorite teams win this weekend? Any fantasy footballers out there? How are you faring so far? I love football and had a friend who wanted me to join his fantasy league, but I’ve never done that before and feel like I need a little bit of a tutorial before I attempt fantasy leagues. Oh well…maybe next year.

Remembering September 11th

September 12th, 2007

Yesterday was a day of rememberance for all of the people who lost their lives on September 11th. Last night, the History Channel was running specials recapping the footage of the plane crashes and the colapse of the World Trade Centers. Seeing that brought back the memory of exactly where I was when that happened and what went on that week. It was such a horrible and scary time. After six years, we have all gone on with our lives, but it’s still scary to think that something like that could happen again at any time. We don’t seem to have the protections in place for our country to keep it from happening again.

Keep the families of the fallen and our current troops in your thoughts.

What a sweet stray….awww

September 10th, 2007

I came across the cutest dog this weekend. He had a collar and I assumed he belonged to one of the neighbors, but he slept on my front porch all weekend. This morning I called the vet and was told he was a stray that was taken in by a couple who had recently lost their golden lab. The vet gave me their contact number and I was able to reach them on the phone. They explained that the collar and tag belonged to their dog that they had to put to sleep in May. They took in the stray and gave him the collar and hoped he would stay around with them. I was told he has a bad habit of wandering off and in the few weeks that they had him they’ve had to pick him up from strangers’ houses several different times. I told them he had been sleeping on my porch all weekend and didn’t seem to be in any hurry to go anywhere.

They’ve informed me that they just can’t keep him, because he wanders off and have pretty much left him in my hands. I already have pets and can’t really keep him, but I had to turn him into the animal shelter. He’s so sweet and friendly and is very good with people. I guess we’ll see how today goes…if he stays around I’ll have to decide if I can handle one more dog, or if I’ll try to find him a good home.

Have any of you ever taken in a stray? My dogs are both rescue dogs and have been wonderful pets, but I’ve never taken in a stray right off the street.

Anyway…I’d love to hear any stories you may have.

Apple iPhone

September 7th, 2007

What do you all think about Apple issuing a $100 credit to all those who bought the iPhone when it was first released? Now that they’ve lowered the price by $200 to push holiday sales, I guess they received many angry emails from the first buyers. I know that prices drop after a product has been released for awhile, but this was really fast. From a business standpoint, I guess they made quick big release money and then tried to appeal to the masses with the lower price. From a consumer standpoint, it seems really suspect.

Do any of you have the iPhone? What do you think of it? Is it worth the money? Do you think they’ll expand service to Verizon, Alltel, etc.?

The death of Pavarotti

September 6th, 2007

I’ve never been a huge fan of classical music, but I did appreciate the voice and talent of Pavarotti. It was sad to know that he passed away after his battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a true genius and the world will miss his voice. He will live on through his recordings and the impact he had on millions around the world.

On a similar note, I also lost my grandfather this past weekend. He had suffered with Parkinson’s disease for many years and finally let go and moved on. I was very sad to lose him, but glad that he is no longer suffering and in pain.

So my heart and well wishes go out to my family and to the families of others who have recently lost a loved one.

Birthday Eve

September 3rd, 2007

Well, it’s the night before my birthday as I sit here in my new house. I’ve been moving from my old place to my new one for the last week and have been out of touch with everyone and everything. I bought a new laptop about a month ago and it seemed to work fine. I’ve done a little traveling and tried to connect to several different wireless systems…thanks to Windows Vista it’s been impossible. When I returned home I couldn’t even connect to my home system. After spending four hours on the phone with Microsoft on Sunday morning, I had to reinstall my operating system and pretty much lost all my other programs. The rest of the day, as well as today was spent reloading programs and files. Now I can sit down and enjoy the fruits of my labor…lol.

I hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day weekend. I’d love to hear from you all either in PMs or in posts on the message board. Now that I’m back up and running I want to get back in touch with everyone. It feels like the stone age without internet access. What did we ever do before?
