Volunteer weekend for the animal shelter

September 8th, 2008

Monday again…but a great one so far.  It’s sunny, but much cooler and today it follows a really great weekend.

I spent Friday and Saturday volunteering at a local festival with the local animal shelter.  We had a petting zoo, with llamas, baby calves, baby goats, bunnies, sheep, geese, horses, pot belly pigs and a few puppies and kittens.  We also had a face painting booth, gift baskets raffles, an adoption center, and horseback rides for the kids.

I worked in all the areas from 8am until about 11pm.  They were long days, but it was so much fun watching all the kids and their families really enjoying our area of the festival.  I love volunteering for the shelter.  It’s really such a wonderful cause.

This week I’ll be doing some work with the animals at the shelter, before leaving on Thursday for Louisville.  I’ll be gone for a few days on the road and then will come home for a week before I head for Chicago again.  I’ll be in Chicago from the 22nd-25th of September and then have plans to visit the Dallas / Ft. Worth area in October.

This fall will be a busy one, as usual, but I love to travel during this time of year.  It’s more comfortable to be outside, and there’s plenty of street festivals and activities to do in all the towns that I’ll be touring in.

I hope to meet up with some of you on my travels, so stay tuned.
